Open Multiple Programs, Documents, URLs, Folders, Songs, Videos At Once With File Instant Opener

Opening the same applications over and over again, one by one, can feel cumbersome sometimes, especially if you’re working on a project that requires a specific set of applications to run. Instant File Opener was created to make it easier by providing the capability to open multiple applications, documents, videos or any other kind of files, URls, and folders, at once.

Instant File Opener

What it does is that it lets you create a list of items that you need to open simultaneously and save it. Then you can load the list and hit the play button whenever you want to run the items at once. Moreover, the list can also be configured to run or just to display its content automatically at Windows startup. If you choose the latter option, the list will be displayed where you can select the items that you want to run, which is nice because you may not need to launch all of them on certain occasions.

Startup Menu

Just make sure to remember which list that you have the auto-start option enabled. If you have more than one list with the option activated, then all of these lists will be executed at Windows startup.

Adding items into the list itself can be described as more than just easy as it provides various ways to do so. You can click the Plus button in the toolbar to add any item except for URL, right-click on an empty space in the table, drag and drop, or via the List menu. Note that while it is possible to add an application simply by clicking the Plus button, if you want to run it with specific argument and administrator right, then you need to add it via the Plus button’s drop-down or the List menu instead.

When a list is being executed and then it turns out that some items have invalid path, you will be prompted to delete each. As each item can be edited to change its location path—and its window state (minimized, maximized, normal)—you may want to click No and then manually fix it.

Invalid Items

There is also a cleaner tool—represented by the broom icon—to detect and remove all of invalid items simultaneously. Because of how it works, however, it can also be used to merely find out which items that have broken path. After the program shows the list of the nonexistent ones, you can cancel the deletion and then fix them manually.

Instant File Opener is extremely easy to use and it only takes less than 2 MB of space. Lightweight, straightforward and intuitive user interface, and does what it claims to do. For me, it’s a must-have tool—until I find a better one. The only things that disappoint me is that it has no portable version and no quick way to switch the auto-start status between the lists from the interface. Other than those, it’s a great application.
